A Summer Playground for All Ages
New Hampshire is made for outdoor adventures. Start the day by exploring a corner of the White Mountains National Forest. With 800,000 acres of wilderness, there's plenty of room to roam. Just down the road from this unspoiled playground you'll find quaint towns and villages as well as dozens of family attractions to keep the kids entertained. In the afternoon, jump in the car and follow the scenic 100-mile loop through the White Mountains. And whenever your passengers become restless you can stop and hike one of the many easy trails along the way. Or if you prefer an alternate mode of transportation, hop aboard the Cog Railway and enjoy the view as you inch up New England's highest peak, Mount Washington.

The next day, saturate your senses in the pristine woodlands of Franconia Notch, one of New Hampshire's oldest state parks. There are guided trips that let you drift on a mirror-smooth lake or kayak over gurgling streams. Take a mountain bike along marked trails or a leisurely bike ride along paved carriage roads in the shadows of the Presidential Range. When your stomach starts to rumble, head down the historic Kancamagus Highway where you'll find both amazing scenery and delicious cuisine ranging from local home cooking to gourmet delights. After you satisfy your appetite, continue your adventure along this scenic highway enjoying whatever fits your mood. From shopping to hiking, family attractions to historic sites, you can spend a week just exploring everything this nationally recognized route has to offer. When it is time to rest your head, try one of the many hotels, resorts or B&B's in the Mount Washington Valley, many of which have been welcoming families since the 1800's.

If your cubs are interested in exploring more of the great outdoors, New Hampshire's State Parks are the answer. With miles of trails to explore and lakes and rivers for swimming, canoeing and kayaking, there is never a shortage of things to do. Many State Parks offer camping facilities, so after a day packed with activities, you can roast marshmallows beside a crackling campfire and sleep peacefully under a million stars.
